Shady Business Practices by @Hertz Car Rental in Vancouver

I think this will be my first time blasting a company for shady business practices and not making it right. I hope it will be my last.

Update: As a result of this post, the manager of the Vancouver Airport Hertz location emailed me and honored the original booking rate. Still annoyed it had to come to this, though.

Background

I went to Vancouver, BC this weekend on a last-minute wedding anniversary trip with my husband. They don’t have Uber, and I soon found out that it was likely because the local taxis and car rentals are so inexpensive, that Uber would have a hard time surviving. Continue reading →

Some useful roadside assistance cards for top credit cards

Many of the top of the line credit cards from the various issuers offer various roadside assistance benefits for free. Benefits include towing assistance, jumping a dead battery, bringing you emergency gasoline, and more.

Driving on the wrong side of the road again – Japan edition!

Before all of that, you might be asking, “Why drive in Japan? Isn’t there a great public transportation system over there?” And the answer is, normally you wouldn’t. The train system in Japan is very extensive, and with options like the JR Pass for tourists, you should be able to get to the majority of tourist areas for free or just with a charge for the last local connection. Plus, driving in Japan is expensive, with pricey car rentals and highway tolls. Continue reading →

Silvercar $75 Discount and Great Customer Service

These Silvercar discount codes came as part of a Virgin America promotional email today.

1st time renters: use code ELEVATE75 for $75 off.

Returning customers: use code ELEVATE15 for 15% off.

I have my first-time reservation in FLL coming up in December that I had previously used code FTU50 for 1 day free. When I got this new code, I thought about cancelling the reservation and rebooking it with the new code, but was concerned that there would be IT issues with being considered a 1st-time renter, etc. So I shot off a quick email to support@silvercar.com and within 10 minutes I had received a response from Customer Support: Continue reading →
