Asking for an upgrade to business class… and getting it!

Okay it wasn’t as brazen as the post title suggests. But yes, it’s a real life datapoint of asking for an upgrade (that was probably deserved) and getting it!

Back at the end of January, when AA opened up premium award space to Europe pretty widely, I jumped on it to book a business class class ticket to Ibiza, SFO-JFK-LHR, LCY-IBZ as part of a summer Europe trip. My friends were going on the same trip, so I encouraged them to do so as well. Except for the first statement on their Citi AA cards hadn’t closed yet so they didn’t quite have the miles! And the Citi AA Platinum Select World Elite loophole with targeted mailers keeps chugging along

Back in February, there were fears that the Citi AA Platinum Select World Elite loophole was dead. I did my 3rd round right about when the reports that public links would not trigger the bonus. Fortunately, I applied with a targeted mailer and I did receive the signup bonus. Data points collected in March suggested that public links were failing, targeted links had a mixed success rate, and targeted mailers had a 100% success rate. Continue reading →

Some great credit card offers are back! Amex Platinum 100k and Citi AA 50k

EDIT: That was fast, as expected. The Amex Platinum link is now down.

Via ChetHazelEyes through reddit r/churning, the American Express Platinum 100k offer is back publicly. It is 100k Membership Rewards points after spending $3k in the first 3 months. I applied, was approved over recon, and confirmed the bonus offer.

You can access the offer through this link:

(Targeted) Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red/Silver: 1000 AAdvantage miles for adding an authorized user

Via Reddit, some people are getting targeted offers for the Barclays Aviator Red offering 1000 AAdvantage miles for adding an authorized user by December 31, 2015. There seems to be no spending requirement attached to this offer.

I personally also received an email title Earn More Miles this holiday for my Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Silver with the following:

There doesn’t seem to be any date restriction on my offer, but there’s no reason not to take advantage right away. So check your email! It’s an easy 1000 miles. Continue reading →

Great Customer Service from AA, and My First, First-class Flight!

This ones going to be a short one, and fairly atypical of me for many reasons (primary of which is that it’s short 😛 ).

For starters, I booked my first, first-class ticket!! Although I wear my never-flown-a-premium-cabin badge with pride, Bangkok and Southeast Asia have been on my bucket list, and for just 60,750 AA miles (after the 10% rebate from my Citi AAdvantage Platinum card), it was worth the splurge (for what it’s worth, I will be flying Qantas and AA business class between now and this booking, but it will still have the honor of being my first flight in the front of the plane). Citi AAdvantage Executive 75,000 miles signup offer still available!

The 75,000 AAdvantage miles signup offer for the Citi AAdvantage Executive card was supposed to have expired as of October 26, 2015. However, via ChetHazelEyes on reddit, the old application link for the 75,000 miles offer still works.

As a reminder, the minimum spending on this card is $7,500 within 3 months to get the bonus. The annual fee is $450, but if you cancel within 45 days or so, you can get the annual fee refunded. The miles won’t be clawed back as long as they have posted to your AAdvantage account.
