Cheap British Airways business class flights to Europe are back!

UPDATE: Via Dan’s Deals, you can use Cash + Avios and get a very good value out of your Avios (around ~2 cents per Avios)

British Airways has been having on and off business class sales to Europe for the last year or so. According to FlyerTalk, the sale is back again. I’m finding fares to Europe from San Francisco to be around $2000. This offer is not limited to San Francisco though, and should be available from many airports across the country. It’s not too often that the West Coast gets business class deals this good to Europe though. Continue reading →

Digital Priority Pass Membership card available!

Update: They let me into the SFO Air France lounge, after initially insisting that they needed to see my physical card. The agent realized there was a scanning feature on the Priority Pass reader, but it took a while to scan properly. The process was a lot smoother at the Asiana lounge in Seoul Incheon, as the agents there knew exactly how to scan the digital membership card.

Arrived at the airport and headed to the lounge when you realized you left your physical Priority Pass card at home? Or in my case, left your Priority Pass card along with a bunch of credit cards in your hotel in Brazil? You now might have a backup option! Continue reading →

How to get a last minute passport renewal + Brazilian Visa

For my recent trip to Brazil, I knew that as a US Citizen, I needed to get a visa. The only person going on the trip who was exempt from this requirement was my friend who was a Singaporean citizen.

I looked up the requirements. The fee for the visa was $160, payable in USPS Money Order. Due to a new reciprocal agreement, it would be valid for 10 years with multiple entries allowed. It was still 6 weeks out from my trip, I had plenty of time, right? Continue reading →

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to La Candelaria

Every now and again while traveling you are struck by an experience that reminds you of the incredible and beautiful diversity that we have in the world and how languages and cultures can bridge that diversity in unexpected ways. My first of these such experiences occurred on one of my very first travel adventures, a week-long trip to Brussels, Brugges, and Paris.

On the last night of the final stop in my adventure, at the Notre Dame in Paris, I sat down to eat a picnic dinner that I had bought myself when I serendipitously stumbled upon a Boulangerie (bakery), Charcuterie (meat shop), and Fromagerie (cheese shop) all adjacent to each other. As I was eating, a man sat down a few feet to my right and proceeded to do the same. Continue reading →

Travel Tips: My on-the-ground toolkit

Esther, Michael, and I realized that we spend a lot of time talking about how we are able to travel to so many amazing places but little time about how we actually get around while we’re on the ground. Since I’m fresh off of a last-minute Labor-day weekend trip to Colombia (I don’t speak Spanish, nor had I been to South America before), I figured now would be a good time to share some of the tools I use to plan and manage my experiences on the ground. Here they are: Continue reading →
