Get Twitter or Facebook links from Chase’s Refer a Friend website even if they are disabled

EDIT January, 2016: It looks like Chase has caught on and nulled out the social media links for certain credit card products like the Freedom. If you have an old referral link that you’ve saved before, that should work though.

I noticed a bunch of new referral offers in an email from Chase earlier this morning, so I logged into chasereferafriend.com as usual to generate some referral links. However, when I put my information into the site, I sadly couldn’t find the Twitter or Facebook options anymore! Continue reading →

AirBnB Amex offer, Amazon Prime First, and Best Rate Kerfuffle

Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links. You aren’t required to click on our links to get the deals, but it would be much appreciated!

Just a quick collection of posts I saw that were interesting, as well as a short experience with the Hilton Best Rate guarantee.

Via Doctor of Credit, there’s a great Amex Offer currently running right now, where you can get $50 of $100 at AirBnB, including gift cards. Please read the follow-up post with all the details you need to know about the deal! If you are are buying gift cards, here are the key things you need to know: Continue reading →

I ain’t about the G-money, money, money

Hopefully you were among those able to take advantage of the giftcards.com gravy train that was around until they eviscerated it last month.

Part of the deal was the fact that Visa Gift Cards (VGC) were eligible for giftcards.com’s G-money rewards program, which offered 1% back in credit to be used towards a future purchase. This allowed for us to effectively buy the gift cards at a net-zero cost basis. Continue reading →

Reduced Amazon Prime membership fee of $67 dollars, Friday 9/25 only!

Edit 9/25: Gifting Prime Membership does not seem to work! You’ll have to deactivate then subscribe again, and you’ll only get one year for $67.

Edit 9/23: Note of caution, Amazon has limited sharing Prime membership to one other person. Deactivating your account will remove users you have shared Prime membership, and you will be only able to add one back.

Amazon is offering a reduced membership fee of $67 for Prime membership this Friday, September 25th only, from 12:01AM EST / 9:01PM PST the previous day, Thursday, September 24th, to 11:59PM PST. This is to celebrate Amazon’s 5 Emmy wins at the 67th PrimeTime Emmy Awards. Continue reading →

Using Southwest LUV vouchers on taxes and fees

This is fairly well-known among those that follow along on Flyertalk or the Saverocity forums, but I recently discovered the following hack that allows you to work around the restriction of these vouchers not being able to be applied to the taxes and fees of a flight:

Basically, what you need to do is to make a dummy reservation with the voucher (of value < voucher) and then immediately cancel that reservation. The voucher then gets converted into “Travel Funds” associated with the initial booking. These can then be applied to any portion of the booking you actually want to make (including the taxes and fees), and since you can add a LUV voucher as an additional form of payment, you can consume the rest of the voucher as part of your new booking. Roomer has it: Orbitz + Masterpass + Roomer = Free Money

Update (9/18 4:30AM): Well, that was fun while it lasted. The promo code has been maxed out and is no longer valid.

When I first saw the $50 off $100 stay by using code MASTERPASS on Orbitz, I was really excited. I mean, I even went so far as to apply for the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card because it provides me significant value.

But then I saw the terms (bolding mine):

Offer is valid for a limited time only and is only available when displayed on www.orbitz.com. Available on desktop and mobile web where MasterPass is an available payment option.  Book a qualifying standalone, pre-paid hotel stay (total cost $100 or more) with travel occurring between September 18, 2015 and September 30, 2015  via Orbitz using MasterPass as the payment method and promo code MASTERPASS, and receive $100 off your booking.  Most major chains are excluded; to find participating hotels look for the “PROMO CODE ELIGIBLE” message on Orbitz.com hotel listings… Continue reading →

Opt-out of PIN-based debit transactions on Amazon

For those who prefer signature-based transactions for their debit cards, Amazon has a setting to have them run your debit card as credit.

You can do so here.

I’d imagine it’s useful for those who don’t have an alternative to using a PPDMC, etc., or for those who have some checking account bonus tied to having a certain number of signature-based transactions. For me, it’s useful for Provident CU ’round-up’ matching (Doctor of Credit has a particularly good resource). Continue reading →

[DEAD] Possible Companion Pass play?

Update (9/14 11:30AM EST): Wow, that was fast. Marriott pulled Fandango from its portal. This is still worth a read though, in case you ever see 100x in the future.

Via Frequent Miler, the Marriott shopping portal appears to be offering 100 points/dollar spent at Fandango. Frequent Miler outlines the general value of such a deal (75% ‘off’ your movie tickets), but as the title of this post suggests, I’d like to take a different bent. Continue reading →

How to get an Orbitz coupon valid for all of 2016!

In case you guys didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of Orbitz and their rewards program. However, I’ve been a bit bummed of late because I have a few trips lined up for next year but am unable to book hotels (i.e. use my supply of Orbucks) because Orbitz hadn’t released any promotional codes valid for 2016 stays.

Thankfully, that changed last weekend with the release of code:

Taking Advantage of Hotel Chain Best Rate Guarantees

I recently had 3 very favorable experiences with hotel chain best rate guarantees, 2 with Marriott as well as 1 with Starwood Hotels. I managed to save over 30% compared to the rate offered by the hotel this way while still earning hotel points and being able to use elite status benefits.

I wanted to share my experiences so people can take advantage themselves. The process is not always simple, but with perseverance and attention to detail, you should be successful. Some 3rd party hotel booking websites also have best rate guarantee programs, such as Orbitz, but that will be a topic of a different post.
